American DJ Petal

Another rare find. This is the American DJ Petal. Unit was made by Lee Star for American DJ. This was the early version of the American DJ Orbit units (unit V.2) with a longer chassis assembly. The unit operates by using a sound active rotating assembly with 4 dichoric mirrors on the top of the unit. Inside the unit there is a constantly rotating gobo wheel mounted in front of convex lens that is placed in front of the 24 volt, 250 watt ELC lamp. The light projects through the optical assembly and through a large focusable lens then onto the rotating dichoric mirrored head. The output is 4 very large colored beams of light with a constantly changing pattern rotating around the room to the beat of the music. An interesting note on this fixture is the operation module. The way this unit was built is located in the rear is a complete separate housing that contains the transformer for the lamp and fan (24 volts for each) and the sound activation PCB. The entire housing is fan cooled and replaceable through a few screws and quick release connectors for the wiring. The unit also has a selectable switch and a variable potentiometer for adjustment of the way the rotation assembly reacts to sound. Nice unit made in Taiwan.
