Sapro Rainbow UFO Units (Clear)




Just in from a complete overhaul!  These are Sapro Rainbow UFO units.  Originally with colored lenses the name rainbow described the colors of the beams but now as clear lensed units the name really does not fit; anyways here they are.  Sapro originally screen printed the colors onto the glass and through time they fade and peel off.  I actually prefer the clear.  If color is desired I would recommend a dichro behind the lens or gell on the outside of the lens for these. 

These units use very high quality Crouzet motors for smooth operation on all axis's.  The base motor uses 2 polycord belts to grip the main shaft.  4 individual power circuits allow better control of the functionality.  1 for each of the 3 motors and 1 for the lamp.  The lamp is a common 120 volt, 500 watt linear FCL Halogen that is very inexpensive.   

A cool feature of these units is the internal circuit panel that is located in the base.  When the panel is opened the connections for the fuses and motors are accessible.  Great units from France. 

 
 
 
 


 





 


 

  

LiteLab L-1000 Logic Control System

Classic Control System from LiteLab.  This is the L-1000 controller combined with the Matrix Zoner / Driver.  This controller has10 channels with a capability of 1200 watts per channel.  This unit was designed to be used with the common 10 lamp strips (metal strips with 10 sockets and small  7 - 11 watt lamps) but can be used with pin spots, neon or other light equipment.  When used in conjunction with the Matrix Zoner the standard chasing back and forth will include going from stick to stick (wagon wheel effect) if you are using the light strips.  Alternating the hot and neutral circuits on the channels creates the effect. 

Most other LiteLab systems have large zoners, dimmers and drivers housed in wall mounted panels.  This system is self contained so all of the other parts are housed in an additional rack mount chassis.  This is more compact and seems to be a rare style from LiteLab.  A 26 conductor ribbon cable connects the 2 units together. 
Operation is pretty simple for this unit.  It can run in auto mode or react to music if an audio source is connected to the rear of the unit.  3 sliders / faders control the main function.  They are for Sensitivity (for the audio), Rate and Speed.  The other small switches switch on or bypass the Zoner, activate or bypass the audio, pause (Stops the chasing at a step), Direction (of chase), mode (for types of chasing) and the main power switch.

This classic system was made here in the US. 

  




















Clay Paky Atlas (Current / Modern Version)



Awesome units from Clay Paky!  These are the newer Atlas units (Also know as Version 2).  These use a custom newer chassis compared with the older Atlas units that use a modified classic Marte and Saturno chassis.  Although they look different physically, the output is exactly the same. 

These units feature a super bright HMI 575 discharge lamp enclosed in a small douser tube.  How the douser works is by rotating the tube to allow light to emit through the small aperture in the rear of the unit.  The douser rotates slow or fast depending on the speed chosen and can also can move different directions by utilizing a stepper motor mounted to the douser base.  The lamp mounts to a removable plate that transfers the power from the chassis to the lamp.   A super high velocity German Papst cooling fan is used for efficient operation.  The fan is located on a hinged door that swings open for lamp and fan maintenance. 
The output is super bright beams of light that seem to move side to side at different speeds on a 180 degree arc.  Unit can be colored using color gels or dichros.  DMX, Pulsar PMX or 0 - 10 volt Analogue controllable.  220 volt operation and made in Italy.
