Martin Sweeper
This is another classic from Martin! From the D.J. series this is a Sweeper unit. Very similar to the Abstract Rave unit. I just got this one in and it realy needs a cleaning!! Unit has a 120 volt, 100 watt EFP lamp on each end that project from each side onto a spinning dichoric glass prism in thde center. Thed prism is sound active and is triggered from a michophone on one one end of the light. The output is a super fast changing crazy beams of light! Unit has 3 motors. 1 for the rotation mirror and 2 for the cooling fans. Fixture made in Denmark. Unit is currently for sale!!

Just found one of these in my loft - previous owner. Doesn't seem to be sound active though. Where is the microphone supposed to be?
ReplyDeleteOpen up the unit cover. You will see a small circuit board where the wires that control the motor attach to. You will see the microphome attached to the board. If your unit is not resdponding to sound it might not be attached at all. When the board goes bad many times people bypass the circuit so it will run constant.
ReplyDeleteSo is the microphone the round thing with the grey top, to the top left of the circuit board? If so, it seems to be attached, so I guess it's just not working. See picture here: http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=458913954123&set=a.458913919123.260769.515554123
ReplyDeleteCorrect. That is the microphone. It looks like you need a new circuit board.
ReplyDeleteI have a sweeper, ministar and rainbow. All very similar pcbs, but either rotate continuously or not at all. Any clues on replacement circuitry?
ReplyDeleteThe Martin Ministar, Rainbow, Wheeler, Starflash, Sweeper & Magic Moon all use the same board. The PCB problem is the same in all of them. I do not know of another replacement that will fix the problem. Ususally you have to find another unit and take the board from it in order to get a working replacement.
ReplyDeleteInteresting to read about the D.J. series which is a Sweeper unit, although the post is brilliant too.
