This is a very odd unit from Griven. This is the Dobos projector. The unit features 2 X 120 volt, 250 watt ENH lamps that are mounted on separate rotation motors. The lamps are located on extended pieces of metal so the lamps can create a unique effect. How the unit works is that the lamps move in a 360 degree arc to the beat of the music. Located in front of the unit is a large metal plate with gobo like cuts in it with dichoric pieces attached. This plate acts like a large gobo template for the image projections. The lamps move opposite of each other for synchronized beam projection of light out of the 2 convex lenses on the front of the unit. The output is colored beam patterns changing to the beat of the music. An interesting design that Griven used is the unit has 2 large resistors stretched across the front of the chassis directly under the lenses. This is used to drop the 220 volt input down to 110 volts for the lamps. It gets very hot when the unit is operating and you can see where some of the insulators have turned brown from high amounts of heat generated from the resistors. The fixture can be controlled from the onboard microphone of through direct connection via ¼” connector on the rear. Unique unit made in Italy.

Clay Paky Marte Units

I picked up a set of 4 of these classic units. These are Clay Paky Marte beam projector units. The units feature a 36 volt, 400 watt EVD lamp at the rear of the unit that emits a ton of light. The light projects through 14 super high quality lenses creating a 180 degree arc of pencil thin beams. These units look awesome when used in multiples or on a chase sequence. Color can be achieved by using gels or changing out the clear lenses with colored ones on the front of the units. The unit is fan cooled and weighs a ton (42 Lbs.)! The fixture has separate circuits for the fan and lamp. The reason they are on separate circuits is that if you choose to use them on a chase controller or only for momentary bursts of light you will not constantly be turning the fan on and off thus reducing the fans motor life. Also the fan takes a while to get up to speed so if you were using it on a chaser the fan would never cool the unit. Currently the units are set for 220 volt operation, but changing out the lamp transformer and fan will make it 110 volt (a project for the future). Great units made in Italy.

PSL Programmi Sistemi Luce Dynamic Scan

A great unit from PSL!
This is the Dynamic Scan laser simulator unit. This unit features a 24 volt, 250 watt EVC
light source located at the rear of the unit that reflects off of an aluminum
reflector mounted on the lamp access door.
The light then passes through a small convex lens with a constantly
rotating dichoric color wheel with 8 colors mounted behind it. As the color wheel rotates it switches
between white and color constantly making a very nice effect. After the light rotates through the color
wheel it passes through a much larger convex lens and then onto the vibrating
mirror assembly. The vibrating mirror
assembly is triggered by sound via a microphone mounted next to the assembly. There is a sensitivity knob to adjust the
trigger for the vibration mounted on the assembly as well. The output is a super fast “laser” like
scanning effect that is constantly changing colors. The unit has quite a bit of weight to it from
the large transformer mounted in the center of the unit. Also, replacing the lamp is a bit tricky due
to the way it fits into the base and also there is a metal bracket that is
conveniently in the way. Fixture made in
Italy .

American DJ Petal

Another rare find. This is the American DJ Petal. Unit was made by Lee Star for American DJ. This was the early version of the American DJ Orbit units (unit V.2) with a longer chassis assembly. The unit operates by using a sound active rotating assembly with 4 dichoric mirrors on the top of the unit. Inside the unit there is a constantly rotating gobo wheel mounted in front of convex lens that is placed in front of the 24 volt, 250 watt ELC lamp. The light projects through the optical assembly and through a large focusable lens then onto the rotating dichoric mirrored head. The output is 4 very large colored beams of light with a constantly changing pattern rotating around the room to the beat of the music. An interesting note on this fixture is the operation module. The way this unit was built is located in the rear is a complete separate housing that contains the transformer for the lamp and fan (24 volts for each) and the sound activation PCB. The entire housing is fan cooled and replaceable through a few screws and quick release connectors for the wiring. The unit also has a selectable switch and a variable potentiometer for adjustment of the way the rotation assembly reacts to sound. Nice unit made in Taiwan.
